It’s Fall Y’all
and that means it is time for things to become a little spookier!
One of my favorite things to do when the leaves start to change (or turn brown here in Texas) is curl up on the couch with a nice cup of cocoa and a good movie! Below is a list of our Top 10 favorite movies for the spooky season!
Family Friendly Flicks
Nightmare Before Christmas
What’s this? A movie that has become a Halloween and Christmas staple! Between the music and the fun characters it is hard not to fall in love with this film! If you have seen it many times before (like I have) why not have a family sing-along?
They put a spell on you, and now your glued to the screen! Hocus Pocus is one of those movies that became an instant classic! The Sanderson Sisters are at it again, can the kids stop them before it’s too late?
A dog is a boys best friend, but what happens when he dies? Bring him back to life of course! In this heartwarming take on the classic story Frankenstein you see the love between a boy and his dog. But what happens when science goes wrong?
Say his name three times and your world will turn upside down with this campy Halloween classic! Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton all star in this movie directed by Tim Burton. So sit down because “It’s showtime!”
Welcome to Hotel Transylvania, a resort for Monster-kind away from scary human beings! When Dracula’s daughter, Mavis, has her 118th birthday he invites all their friends to the resort to celebrate. But when a 21 year-old human boy, Johnathan, stumbles upon the resort, Dracula must do what he can to make sure his guests, and his daughter, do not learn the truth about him. In the end, the truth comes out. Dracula, and his friends, end up learning that humans are not as bad as they once believed.
Movies For the Grown Ups
Not all Halloween movies have to be scary! Little Evil is a comedic yet surprisingly heartwarming twist on the classic Omen story which gives it its Halloween feel!
If you are looking for a good scare, The Conjuring is an immediate go to! Based on a true story from the lives of Fred and Loraine Warren, this movie dives into the darkness of evil and possession.
Cabin in the Woods
All horror movies have the same cliches. Cabin in the Woods takes them and turns them on their head! This unique deconstruction of the horror genre keeps the scare meter up just enough and relieves the tension with some well placed humor! Just remember to “never read the Latin!”
In this retelling of the classic story Frankenstein, you find a movie full of humorous anecdotes from Mel Brooks (the man who brought us Spaceballs and Men in Tights)
A true crime writer and his family move into the house previously owned by a family who were found dead and their daughter missing. In his attempt to solve the mystery, he finds video footage of the deaths of many families over decades, all under mysterious circumstances. Through these videos he finds clues linking the mysterious deaths and disappearances to a sinister being and realizes that living in that house might be deadly.
