It was a cloudy, misty morning as my mother and I headed out to my chemo appointment. My nurse, Amy (best nurse on planet earth), accessed my port to draw my labs then came back to get my pain history. She called my oncologist to report the pain history and there it was! The doctor said to stop chemo and get another mammogram and ultrasound so they could see where things stood and get me scheduled for surgery in a month.
See, my neuropathy is really bad and they don’t want it to become permanent so they stopped the chemo. I got the mammogram and ultrasound done the same day and found out that my original tumor has definitely shrunk, but it has broken up into several tumors between the 9 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions. They did say my lymph node looks better though. My worry is, will the tumors grow and/or spread in the month I am waiting for the surgery. It must be a worry for most cancer patients.
So I will be waiting on surgery which should take place around March 6th. In the meantime, I will be praying that the status quo doesn’t change.
